4 Recommended Routes to Sleep Training
This choice is based on your parental intuition, your baby’s Zone of Proximal Development, your desired speed of results, the makeup of your whole family system, and your mental health.

Extinction
A rigid method where parents do not respond at all overnight—not realistic and not recommended.
Cry It Out
Parents put the baby down and allow them to cry until they fall asleep, or until they’ve reached a specific time limit, teaching independent self-soothing.
Modified Cry It Out
Parents check in at timed intervals to reassure the baby while still encouraging self-soothing.
Modified-Modified
A gentler version with shorter intervals and more flexibility to balance consistency with responsiveness.
No Cry It Out
An approach that aims to eliminate crying entirely, but usually makes the process longer and harder to sustain.

No Cry
The dream of tear-free independent sleep—beautiful in theory, but not realistic in practice. Not recommended.

The Result: Peaceful Sleep and So Much More
Your family will sleep through the night—but the benefits of The Peaceful Sleeper Method go beyond the early hurdle of sleep training your baby. This process will lead to:
Greater Parenting Confidence – You’ll feel more secure in your decisions and less second-guessing yourself.
Deeper Understanding of Your Child – Learn to read your child’s cues, temperament, and needs more clearly.
Stronger Parent–Child Connection – Build a foundation of trust through responsive, consistent care.
More Personal Time & Energy – Reclaim time for your own needs, hobbies, or connection with your partner.
Lifelong Skills for Parenting – The ability to adapt, observe, and respond will help you in every stage beyond sleep.
Reduced Stress & Anxiety – Less chaos around bedtime means a calmer home and more emotional bandwidth.
What Parents Love About Our Method

Meet Our Founder
Chrissy Lawler
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, lover of sleep, and baby sleep consultant — Chrissy founded The Peaceful Sleeper because she recognized how critically important sleep is in all aspects of life. Many parents are under-informed or feel unnecessary guilt when it comes to sleep training and sleep coaching their baby.
After practicing therapy for over 15 years, Chrissy realized that sleep issues were a common thread among all of her clients. She sought out additional training in advanced sleep medicine and learned that many of the mental health challenges we (and our children) face today stem from inadequate sleep. Though every baby is different, there are universal sleep training truths.
Chrissy's goal is to help parents enjoy parenthood—not just endure it—and to take the stress out of sleep training.
