7 Reasons I’d Choose Great Wolf Lodge Over Disneyland Any Day

Updated: Aug 22

As many of you know, me and the girls just went to Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City, Michigan and had a blast—as usual. I truly love this place and would pick it over Disneyland 10 times out of 10.There’s something magical about a trip that’s fun for everyone—parents included—and still feels easy, affordable, and low-stress. If you're looking for a family-friendly vacation that won't break the bank (or your sanity), here’s why Great Wolf Lodge will always be my go-to:

1. It’s So Manageable

We decided to go big and took seven kids ranging from ages 4 to 12—and every single one of them had fun the entire time. I thought it might be chaos, but it was totally manageable. I felt like a cool mom and cool aunt all at once. And even better? I ran solo…yup, 1:7 and I still had the best time plus zero stress.

Unlike bigger parks that can feel overwhelming, Great Wolf Lodge is compact enough to keep track of your crew without needing a GPS tracker and a stress nap.

2. Something for Everyone

From toddler-friendly splash pads to twisty thrill slides, they truly have it all. Indoor pool, outdoor pool, lazy river, hot tubs, obstacle courses—the list goes on. And yes, there's even a bar if mom wants to sip a cocktail while the kids play (no judgment here).

Everything is close together, which means less walking, fewer meltdowns, and more actual fun.

3. Lifeguards Everywhere

As a mom, safety is always top of mind. I was so impressed by how present and alert the lifeguards were. I could actually relax a little knowing there were trained eyes on my kids in every corner of the water park.

It felt like the perfect combo of safe and fun, which is basically a parenting unicorn.

4. More Than Just Water Fun

Even when the kids were waterlogged and ready for a break, we were still covered. Great Wolf Lodge has mini golf, an arcade, bowling, and even rock climbing and a ropes course at some locations.

We broke up the day with activities like MagiQuest and crafts, and no one ever said “I’m bored,” which has to be some kind of record.

5. Reasonable Prices

I think this is one of the biggest reasons I keep coming back. So many family destinations feel like a trap once you walk through the door—everything is an upsell, and it adds up fast.

But not here. A big ice cream cone was $3.99. A round of bowling for our whole crew? $24.99. I couldn’t believe it. And the food? Genuinely yummy and reasonably priced.

6. Easy to Keep Everyone Happy

Because everything is contained in one place, it’s actually possible to let the older kids have some freedom while still keeping a close eye on everyone. The little ones had just as much fun as the big kids, and no one ever had to wait long for their turn.

When you’re juggling multiple kids with different interests and energy levels, it’s amazing to find a place where everyone’s needs are met without overcomplicating it.

7. Real Memories, Not Exhaustion

The girls and I are still talking about our favorite parts—I came home with so many sweet memories and not a stress migraine, which honestly never happens after a big trip.

The whole vibe is just… fun. And chill. And magical in a totally doable way.
